Uncover the Beauty of our Handpicked Wood Collection

At JCNB Crafts we take pride in our service, including the selection of hardwoods we offer. We believe it is essential to have a wide variety of choices as every customer has a unique taste and we want to cater to as many people as possible. We always ensure the quality of our hardwoods and products by sourcing our material from an FSC-certified company (read more here from the FSC website).

All woods we provide are made from ‘staves’ which means solid wooden blocks, that measure 40mm in width, glued together to make the unit. The staves can vary in length. We also offer a variety of thicknesses including 27mm and 40mm.

The woods and thicknesses we offer are:

- Ash 40mm.

- Beech 27mm and 40mm (Currently only selling 40mm).

- Black American Walnut 27mm and 40mm (Currently only selling 27mm).

- Cherry 40mm (Currently out of stock).

- European Walnut 40mm.

- Iroko 27mm and 40mm (Currently only selling 40mm).

- Sapele 40mm.

- Solid Oak 27mm and 40mm.

Before reading any further about the specific woods you will notice we talk about the Janka rating, which is the hardness of the boards. This is important to know as this determines the suitability of the wood for wear and tear, especially when used for tasks such as flooring, tables or kitchen worktops.

What is Ash?

Our European Ash is a fantastic wood to select for your furniture. It is largely indistinguishable from White Ash, which is widely known to be extremely durable and stable with a Janka rating of 1320 pound-force (lbf). Our European Ash grows in Europe and Southwestern Asia and as you know we always source our wood from FSC-certified companies.

Ash is a dense and tough wood and with its honey-toned grain patterns, it will add a light and fresh look when placed in your kitchen. Especially if you pair it with a darker-toned wood for a contrasting feel or a lighter wood to add coolness to your room.

What is Beech?

Beech is a widely used hardwood in Europe due to its wear resistance and strength. Boasting a Janka rating of 1450 pound-force (lbf). Grown mainly in Europe, Beech is a fantastic wood for any project. Its delicate golden tones and unique speckled grains mean it works great for flooring, cabinetry, indoor furniture and even musical instruments.

All at an extremely affordable price, Beech may be exactly what you are after for your household.

What is Black American Walnut?

One of our favourite woods to work with, Black American Walnut is an elegant, rich and characterful hardwood. With dark brown tones and durability, it is excellent for many projects. What is Cherry?

Our natural Cherry wood is a distinctive hardwood, with a unique grain and beautiful rich red tones. It is a truly prized wood in the eyes of woodworkers due to its special qualities. Grown mainly in Europe and America, it is known to be one of the best multi-purpose, all-around wood for workability. The Janka rating for this specific wood is 995 pound-force (lbf).

What is European Walnut?

European Walnut is an eccentric hardwood, in that gives a wide variety of wood tones, colours and grains in one item. Grown mainly in Eastern Europe and Western Asia, the rich brown tones of European Walnut will give your home warmth and character.

Due to its durability and strength, with a Janka rating of 1220 pound-force (lbf), it is ideal for most projects and items around the house.

What is Iroko?

Iroko, sometimes referred to as ‘African Teak’ is a beautiful wood. With its golden tones and dark hues, it will add warmth and a vibrant feel to your kitchen. Naturally, Iroko has a high oil content and this makes it very moisture resistant.

Native to Africa this wood similar to Cherry darkens over time and provides you with a beautiful addition to your household. Iroko is known to be easy to work with and because of a Janka rating of 1260 pound-force (lbf), it is an ideal wood for cabinetry and even boat building.

What is Sapele?

Sapele, also known as Sapelli is an extremely stunning wood. The dark reddish-brown colour of Sapele means it has become a master of grace. Sapele is a timeless wood and has been used in many traditional and contemporary works. Native to Africa just like Iroko, Sapele has been exported and has become an extremely economically important African wood species.

Sapele is an extremely hardwood with a Janka rating of 1410 pound-force (lbf) which makes it perfect for furniture.

What is Solid Oak?

Our natural-grade Solid Oak is ethically sourced. For many centuries now, Oak has been used because of its quality, fantastic finish, and durability. Grown across the globe in the Americas, Asia, Europe and North Africa, it has become a staple in woodwork and is one of the most popular woods.

Solid Oak provides a rustic appeal and when you finish it with an oil of your choice (e.g. Danish Oil, Mineral Oil, Olive Oil, Tung Oil, etc), it brings out the character and warmth of the wood. Due to its natural colour and knots that occur in the wood, our Solid Oak would be a beautiful addition to any kitchen. The Janka rating of 1350 pound-force (lbf), makes this ideal for almost any project you could think of.
